This match was the high point of the United States National Team in Germany. I'm not sure we've ever experienced something as exciting as watching this team hold their own against what would be the Cup-winning club. Our ears hurt from the noise but it was worth it. We brought our camera to capture the scene this time around and it was a lot of fun.

The contest was hard-fought, with 2 straight reds issued and three yellows, one of which to Eddie Pope led to a red. The United States held on to the point defending with 9 men against Italy's 10. A lot of refereeing decisions went against us, but the team showed some spirit that is usually absent on the big stage. Grabbing this point gave us hope that maybe we could advance out of this group of death.

And yes, we got there early.
